What are the Benefits of Counselling?
Counselling is tremendously beneficial for most people. Counselling, often called psychotherapy, provides the opportunity to identify factors that contribute to your emotional health, and to learn how to deal effectively with the psychological, behavioral, interpersonal and situational causes. Recognizing the need for help is a good first step towards improvement.
A skilled therapist can work with you to:
- Pinpoint the life problems that contribute to your current situation and help you identify the problems you are able to solve or improve.
- Identify options for the future and set realistic goals that can enable you to enhance your mental and emotional well-being.
- Identify and change negative or distorted thinking patterns that contribute to feelings of hopelessness and helplessness, in order to help you nurture a more positive outlook on life.
- Explore other learned thoughts and behaviors that create problems and contribute to depression, anxiety and/or stress, which can help you regain a sense of control and pleasure in life.
Counselling helps you see choices as well as gradually increase enjoyable, fulfilling activities in your life. When your emotional health and balance is strong, both you and your family benefit. |
